The Red Lantern

Acrylic / mixed media on canvas

W: 50cm - H: 155cm

The Chinese Lantern plant! It has always fascinated me as it gets more interesting as it ages, like good wine! The proper name is “Lampionplant” from the Physalis – Philadelphica family. It is regarded as a symbol of life within Death. (not after death) I love the colour and the intricate patterns that it makes as the seed casing withers.  This size is good when you have a long space that can’t take a wider painting. I think she is quite at home in the garden when I took her out!
